We are deeply honored to announce that Matzenta Kuzina del Sol has been officially awarded the prestigious “Sello M” (Distintivo de la Gastronomía Mexicana) in the RESTAURANT category.
This landmark recognition is granted jointly by the Mexican Academy of Gastronomy (Academia Mexicana de Gastronomía) and the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores) through the Embassy of Mexico in Greece. It stands as an official validation of our unwavering commitment to preserving, presenting, and honoring authentic Mexican culinary tradition on Cretan soil.
"The Evaluation Committee of the Mexican Academy of Gastronomy issued a favorable verdict granting the 'Sello M' Mexican Gastronomy Seal to Matzenta Kuzina del Sol, in recognition of meeting all eligibility criteria: offering a Mexican menu reflecting our country's cultural and culinary diversity, utilizing authentic Mexican ingredients or local Cretan equivalents that preserve the true essence of each dish, and specifically because Chef Dimitris Malandrenis demonstrated formal training and deep expertise in authentic traditional Mexican cuisine."
From our inception in Chania, our mission has never been generic fusion or Tex-Mex shortcuts. Instead, under the guidance of Chef Dimitris Malandrenis—trained firsthand at the Escuela de Gastronomía Mexicana in Mexico City—we have built an authentic culinary bridge. We cultivate Mexican crops directly in Cretan soil, pair slow-cooking ancestral techniques with indigenous Cretan meats and botanicals, and honor centuries of culinary history.
The Three Pillars of Evaluation
Cultural Diversity
A menu reflecting the true depth, regions, and historical traditions of Mexican gastronomy beyond standard commercial tropes.

The "Sello M" distinction is valid for two years (2026–2028), under continuous quality guidelines. An official award presentation ceremony hosted by representatives of the Mexican Embassy and Academy will take place in Chania.
